Just looked at a case 1845 skidsteer that will be auctioned this week. It hasn't run in a few years, and the owner says he loaned it to a friend who filled the hydraulic tank with the wrong oil and "ruined the seals and pumps"

Rubber is fair and it comes with a standard bucket. Is something like this worth fixing if it can be had for 1000-1500? Or better to part it out? I've worked on lots of vehicles and equipment, but never have done major repairs on an SS.

I think a pump is about $600 (ouch!)

I have one of those machines, and there are some valuable parts on it if it is complete.

I doubt that he ruined a lot of hyd parts, and most hyd componants can use about anything with mineral oil in it.

The hyd on the 1845 can be HYtrans, 10w-40 motor oil with Case additives, maybe even ATF.

I believe that is a Cummings diesel, and if it runs, it is worth something, or try and get the rest of the machine operational.

Check the tanks for correct fluid, check filters, check pressures, etc.

Where are you located?

Thanks JJ, that gives me hope. I'm near Cincinnati, Oh.

It does have the diesel engine. Do you know if these things will roll free when they're not running? I'll need to winch it up on the trailer if I can't get it running or moving on site. Fortunately they said I can have as long as I want to remove it, and I can tinker with it on site.

Some hyd pumps have a bypass valve just for that purpose.

You could also remove the drive chains.

Well, the machine went for about 1700...I bid up to 1300 but had my eye on other items too. Ended up with an International 300 loader with a Henry Hoe on the back. 4 hours of tinkering and runs pretty well and the hydraulics are working. What a beast! I'll have to start a thread for it.
