I did a google search and could not come up with much on the specs for this machine. I found one on craigslist about an hour away and am interested in it. It has a FEL and a box blade on the back. I could not tell from the pics but do these have a standard 3pt hitch and pto? Any ideas on HP?

How would one of these machines work to use as a general tractor to take care of small acreage? the price on it is good compared to "regular" tractors I have been looking at.

Which letter series is it? They made 480s for several years. The loader lift capacity
will be somewhat less than the loader backhoe version mostly due to less weight on the
rear. It will likely have a hydraulic top link and side link on the 3point hitch and most
come with a rear remote as well. A hydraulic pto was an option. I am unsure of the
hp rating on the pto. It will likely have a fwd/rev shuttle with a 4 speed transaxle. Engine will be a 4cyl Case or the later ones had a Cummins. around 50hp depending on year.

Basicly, it will out loader all the compacts and have more weight and traction especially
if 4wd. The hitch will also have big capacity for heavy attachments.
It will be bigger and not quite as nimble as a compact in small areas. It will also likely
rut a lawn with any amount of dampness present.

If tight spaces are not a big issue, a loader tractor can do a lot of work quickly.

case 480LL has no forward, reverse OK . . . where do I start checking to see how serious this problem is ? ?

Have you checked the torque converter oil level..??

Did you just get it, and it was this way..??

Operating, and it just stopped moving..??

If you were operating, and did not come to a complete stop before changing directions multiple times, guessing there could be some serious internal damage...

I was thinking of buying it in this condition, I'm told that while in use, it stopped going forward, reverse is OK, just no forward. I assumed that most of this type of equipment is built to withstand ruffer treatment than the driver would care for. it is owned by an older than 40 person, I don't think abuse is the issue if that is what you were thinking. I have not had any 'hands on' time, so, no, I have not checked any oil levels, though I would assume that the same level that would provide reverse would be sufficient for forward too ? ? where are these levels checked ?

Case parts book shows the dipstick on the right side. Should be just ahead of the uprights, where the loader arms attach.Official Case Construction Equipment Online Parts Store and Parts Look Up. Parts for Case Equipment and Construction Equipment. Parts Store for Case Wheel Loaders, Case Excavators, Case Skid Steers, Case Original Parts. For some reason, on my 480C seems it is on the left side, but it's been a while since I've used it, and checked... Too many tractors here, and things run together.

Doubt that is the problem though, but you can always check.

Not sure what to tell you about moving one direction, but not the other. My manual is at the other farm, or I'd look in the trouble shooting section.

Just wondering about the abuse... Had a neighbor rent an almost new J.D, and was going from forward to reverse without stopping @ higher throttle... Lasted about an hour, and had pups...

Sounds as though it may be the forward drive clutches, or not enough pressure to engage them.

is forward, neutral, and reverse selected with a mechanical link or with solenoids , I read an article that mentioned about a coke can size solenoid on the left side and mentioned or suggested electrical issues with some of the switches as the forward and reverse problems . . . or is this N/A for this model

Parts book shows a mechanical connection down to the housing.

If you open the link above, select "back to manual", then click on "No Description" in the left column, it will open the whole parts book, and you can have a look see at any segment of the machine you wish to look at.
