case 580 B broken dipper boom

My problem is last week i was diggin out some stumps in my yard and broke the dipper boom about 1-2 feet under where the pin goes through to connect the 2 booms. there was a weld job on the boom at that point just above where it broke. I guy i know has a case 480B that he just uses for the 3 point but also has the backhoe attachment for it as well and is willing to sell it. would i be able to switch the two dipper booms? it would be about a foot shorter which i have no problem with. it looks like everything else would work. also what would i ask for the whole backhoe attachment $$ wise? looks in pretty good shape.

why not look into repairing the damaged boom?

That should be a fairly straight forward repair. Had a few done myself, but on excavators. Makes it stronger as well.

Been there with my Cat. The boom is probably not mild steel, and will be very difficult to repair. I should know, I welded mine up 3 times before I bought a new one. Unless you use it very lightly, a repair will probably not work. I had mine done by professionals twice and I did it myself and gusseted the crap out of it a third time and it broke every time.

I doubt the 480 boom will fit, the 480 is a completely different tractor, at least the ones I have seen. You would be better off looking at the mounts and seeing if the whole backhoe unit will fit the tractor.

Get someone who knows what they are doing and have the old one welded, it would still be cheaper I think. The last one was welded ok, it didnt break on that weld did it?
