Case 580B runs but does not move

A good day of working on tractors and a dozer.

Up at my buddy's property today and we had a goal to get the Case 580B backhoe running again. It sat for 7 years but we got her running. And she runs really well. All hydraulics are working (some new seals needed here and there) and we need to replace the starter button. The big issue we were trying to figure out - it will go into gear but once in gear it will not move in forward or reverse. Any help you can give on things to check? Thanks.

Is it like the clutch is stuck in the disengaged position?

My 480F might be similar to yours in that someone told me that the 480F replaced the 580C. Anyway, mine has two clutch buttons- one on the floor and one on the joystick. A stretch but maybe one is stuck open after sitting so long?

Thanks for replying. Good point. My buddy was the one trying to get it to move. We will double check that this coming weekend.

A better forum on this site for Case industrial equipment might be the Constuction Equipment forum. They have helped me out before. The moderators discourage duplicate posts on this site but they often move a thread if you ask them.

Thanks for the info. We got her moving today. Brakes need adjusted and had to top off the trans case. A little fiddling and she ran and moved. Now it is on to replacing the seals on all of the hydraulic arms on the backhoe. Saw a YouTube video that walks you through that whole process. Thanks again.

Mr. Frank, I am having the exact same problem with my case 580B. Starts right up, hydraulics work but my backhoe will not move forwards or reverse. Where exactly did you have to adjust the brakes? Is this the two bolts that seem to go into the differential housing? I'm in desperate need of help. Thank you in advance, Frank.
