Hey guys, Having to build pad for Mobile Home, 580c of friend, will start but not stay running, turn key off, starts again, then slowly dies. Like no fuel. I changed fuel filters, cleaned fuel tank, spit on it. Nothing seems to help. Is there some kind of kill switch, I have the manual one, which works but wondering if there is a solenoide? A mechanic said there was but could not find one, this must be old. Had been sitting up, put new batteries, and alternator and ran great for few days, then when quit, changed the fuel filters. after opening a line, seems to run longer? Any help very much appreciated. Thanks. Dave

Starts ever time, but won't stay running.

Welcome to TBN. It does sound like a fuel problem. I'm not the best when it comes to troubleshooting diesels but I'm wondering if you have an injector problem or injector pump problem. I know my 580k has a solenoid that kills flow, unless it's weak and not opening very far it's more of an on or off thing. I would expect it would just not run.

If you crack the vent on top of the water separator does fuel come readily out? I think that would tell you if the fuel line or tank had an issue. I think you can check the fuel pump by cracking a line just before the injector, maybe someone else would know better though.

You may also want to ask a mod to move this to the construction equipment or parts are repair section to get more help.
