Got an old 580CK which had a problem starting. Following repeated attempts to start it, and using a lot of ether, we found out the injector pump (Roosa DB2) had a problem. (a usual 'ring' problem we understand)
Got the pump rebuilt. When running the motor now, the dipstick & cap blows out part way, blowing oil out. A LOT of crankcase pressure.
Question 1).........
Is using a whole can of ether before the pump rebuild likely done bad damage? (holed piston, busted rings, scored bores, etc.)
I read a post which stated an operator's knee accidentally pressing the ether knob on a unit which messed up a cylinder.
Question 2)........
Is it a straight forward job to replace liners and pistons etc. on the 580CK? (I believe the front axle needs to be removed to drop the sump)
Question 3) .......
Any recommendations to what other parts to replace in a 'minimal' rebuild process? (not a major work machine - what are the basics?)
Thanks for any guidance here
