case 580D
Hi everyone this is my first time posting. I purchased a 580 d a few months for home use and have been changing fluids and filters. yesterday i drained the fluid from shuttle and torque converter dropped shuttle pan and cleaned pan and suction screen, replaced o-ring on suction screen. Reassembled and filled with fluid. now it wont move forward, but reverse seems to work fine, also when i try to shift transmission in different gear when shuttle lever is in nuetral it will grind as if shuttle is not in nuetral. I have a service manual and followed instructions. I am out of ideas can anyone give me some insight.

Sounds like you have a linkage problem.
The linkage may be out of adjustment and is not turning the control valve far enough to engage the forward clutch pack.

Check your linkages, remove as much free play as possible and then adjust them.

Are you sure the linkage is hitting neutral properly (detent ball and spring) ? Excessive play in the shuttle handle (eggs out where the roll pin goes)? Does it have a cutout solenoid, does it work properly? Did you clean and/or replace the control valve assembly (think it's on top rear of tranny unit).

No im not entirely sure but I will check linkage, and yes it does have a cutout solenoid but I think previous owner had unhooked it because the two wires coming out of top of it are not hooked up to anything they are just hanging there, clutch cutout has not worked since Ive had hoe, and I havent checked my control valve yet but that will be happening soon. I was hoping it was just a piece of dirt or something not letting valve to open properly in fwd and nuetral but I have flushed shuttle with diesel fuel three times and drained it, filled it with tch fluid and still wont operate correctly. Do you think cutout solenoid needs to be hooked up to reset itself or something of that nature since Ive done fluid change?

Did you check your oil level with the engine running? If my 580k is low it will work in reverse but not forward. If it gets any lower it will not work in either direction.

Yea crazy it was on full mark, I dropped my shuttle the other day and sure enough the forward clutch was smoked, my tranny man said one of the sealing rings on input shaft was broke and letting fluid leak past said it probably had been like this for some time and when I changed fluid the clutch let go.
