Case 870 540/1000 PTO ???

I just bought my first bigger tractor its a 70's 870 Agri king and the guy said it has a 540/1000 PTO in it.I was wondering how do I know which setting it is in and how do i switch it? all the labels are worn off so I cant read them also I have no manuals for it and I cant find anything online.Thanks For all the help

The 540 RPM will be 1 3/8" 6 spline and the 1000 is a 21 spline. To change you turn the snap ring to the flat on the shaft and remove the snap ring. Pull the shaft out and turn it around and reinstall. You will probably have to turn it some to get the splines lined up so it will go in and then reinstall the snap ring. The speed is changed internally depending on which end of the shaft is inserted so there is nothing else to do.

wow I never would have guessed to do that I saw a lever in the cab that said something like sensitivity and showed PTO symbol on it but I wasnt sure Thanks for the help.Now I can keep brush hogging with out a worry

Case 1370 broken pto shaft Ho to remove and replace?

To KWentling: I Have a case 1370 with a broken shaft. Have ordered replacement pto shaft. Is remove and replace procedure same as case 870 agri king 540/1000 pto turn around? That is to remove you turn the snap ring to the flat on the shaft and remove. Then remove broken shaft and install new shaft? What size snap ring pliars are required (80 lbs pressure)? Any other tools necessary? PLease describe total procedures necessary. Thanks speckpw@bellsouth.net

You mind taking a picture of the lever board. I have the same tractor and none of the levers are labeled anymore. The obvious ones are no issue but there are two levers I have no idea what they do.lol
