CASE IH 4820 Baler

Anyone had any experience with this baler. Bought one yesterday, do I need the gathering wheels? Any good sources for parts and owner manuals? Sorry its a 8420, unable to edit title..

Good little balers, if you have a Case-IH dealer near you all manuals are available and I can't think of any parts that aren't.

As far as the gathering wheels that is a matter of your driving and how you make widrows. Naturally it is way to narrow to pick up a big swath but with a rake you should be able to do well with out.

Thanks, this is my first round baler so I'm pretty ignorant as to how its suppose to work. Its a used baler and it looks like at one time it had the gathering wheels on it. Doesn't seem to have been run very much at all...the chains / belts and gears all look almost new. I will need to at an additional remote as it has hydraulic tie option.

When they first introduced them they were small and in many dairy farmers pocket book range, today most have moved up in size of bale so they can bale longer in between stopping to unload. They will bale nice 700 lb bales all day long that can be rolled by most anyone on solid floors.

I don't think its been used much at all..I'll try it without the gathering wheels and see how it goes. I only bale a few acres and usually don't get in a big hurry. I know I could probably pay someone else to bale alot of hay for the price of a baler, but I like doing it myself. My granddad always said that the best way to get rid of your money was to be a farmer....lol.
