Case JX 70 tractor shut off

I was mowing hay with a Case JX 70 tractor with a New Idea 5408 disc mower. As I was mowing I ran into a wire cage that I did not see and it got caught up in the mower and before I could disengage the PTO the tractor shut off. I then disengage the PTO started the tractor back up and parked the tractor.

Is it likely that I have damaged my tractor and if so how can I determine whether the tractor has been damaged. This tractor is brand new (only 90 hrs) and is still under warranty. If it is damaged I wondered if the warranty would even cover this.

Is the mower too big for the tractor? Does the mower have a slip clutch? Really this should not have happened. If it does have a clutch and the tractor is rated to run the mower you need to adjust the clutch to slip. Or it might be rusted and needs to be opened up spun and reset.

As far as damage, probably not much damage. Does your tractor have a turbo? That would be the only thing that might have had something happen. When you work a tractor hard the turbo can get red hot, and if you shut it off the oil will cook in there, this can lead to bearing damage. If you restarted right away it should be OK.

Some one might think of other things, but I think you are OK.

First did the tractor simply "bog down" then shut off? if so everything shoule be fine. Now your mower. if you read your owners manual it will tell you to adjust the slip clutch for your tractor (hp). if its an old mower i would check to see if its froze up.
