Case JX1095N vs JD 5101EN

Hi all,

I've narrowed down my picks between these two tractors. Right now, my dealer has the Case JX1095N tractor for $21k. It is a 2008 model with 800 hours. I've test drove it and it looks pretty nice for the HP I'm getting. My biggest concern is that it is much smaller than what I'm used to and I'm not sure if it will be able to do all the jobs I will need it to do. Some of these are:

Foliage spraying
Discing (10 feet disct, 24 blades, my soil is clay)
3 PT Mower (10 feet wide)
3 PT Weed Sprayer
Shredding brush, 2 inch max diamter (8 feet wide shredder)

One other thing is that is has smaller tires than the 5093EN. Will this effect much? I'm guessing that smaller tires will mean less traction, but will it make a huge impact?

My John Deere dealer has several 5101EN tractors in the 2000 hour range. I think they are 2009 models and they go for around the low 30's for these. They also come with extended power train warranty of 5 year/5000 hours.

At this time I have a 5500N, which I believe is similar to the EN series. Great size and power for it. I really like the 5500N.

Which one do you guy advise me getting? I will be able to demo the JX1095N soon to make sure it does what I need, but assuming it does fit my needs, which of these two would you go for? Spend a little extra and get the John Deere, or save some cash and get the Case? Also, is 2000 hours a lot for a tractor? I was thinking that it wasn't too bad because it has extended warranty, otherwise I may have not consider it.

Does your 5500N handle the disc currently? I have used a TN75F on a 14' cultimulcher before without any problem but that was late spring, dry ground. I don't know how well narrow tractors would handle more difficult tillage tasks but I don't get the impression thats your goal. Power wise it has plenty.

Between the Case and JD narrows I would go John Deere regardless of price. The cab is so much nicer on the JD then the Case/New Holland tractors. It sits up higher so you have that nice flat deck with room to move and turn inside it where as the CNH machines sink you down in so you can't move. The clutch and brake pedals actually sit over my feet in the rested position so I have to lift my foot and twist it around in order to push any pedals. Its just not a very good tractor for people with bad backs and getting in and out of them any amount is a real pain since you have to twist to get in and twist to get out.

The hours isn't bad either if the machine was taken care of but again, buying used always has risks. You can have a 6000 hour machine that is in better condition then one with only a couple hundred hours depending on the previous owner.

Around here the JD Narrows bring a premium. When looking at used you need to price new and decide if the amount of hours and condition is worth the difference between the new and used price. Its common for JD narrows to be in the low to mid $30k range where as the equal CNH machine is around $10k less.

Also, if your in the market you may want to look at and demo a Kubota M8540 Narrow. Their cabs/operator stations are very close to the John Deeres as far as overall comfort. The price for a new Kubota is considerably less then the new JD narrow but the Kubota doesn't have the weight that the JD and CNH machines have so you may want to add cast rims and weights if your planning to do any serious tillage or pulling tasks. Common 3pt jobs and spraying though you should be fine unless your pulling up steep hills in which case you need the added weight for traction.

I guess I forgot to mention that, I am looking for open station. I don't think a cab would work well for me.

The JX1095N is about 54 inches wide while my 5500N was about 60 inches wide. Not sure how wide the EN series are, but I think it's around 60 inches.

I have about 80 acres of persimmon trees and the tree spacing is about 15-17 feet, and it being narrow is a plus. But it doesn't have to be very narrow like vineyard tractors. I also have a Kubota M9540HD low profile, but it was too wide and tall. It kept on rubbing against branches. The 5500N would still rub, but was not as bad as the M9540HD.

My soil is clay so it's pretty tough in some areas. For the most part, the 5500N does a good job discing, but there are some areas where I have to lift up the disc a little bit or else it's too much for the tractor to pull.

Power-wise, I think the 5500N was on the low side for me, I have an implement that would crown the road and the 5500N has trouble pulling that, while the 9540N did a much better job at it. I rarely use this implement, but it was the only time I noticed that the HP difference really helped.

I did look into the M8540HD too, but I couldn't there wasn't any rental returns in open station for that model, plus it was roughly the same price as the 5093EN, so I rather grab the 5093/5101 EN for that price range.

I'm a Deere man, so I say Deere. I've had better luck with them than any other brand and I have owned quite a few tractors. No experience with either but I would go with what is cleaner, feels better and has the better price

Have you looked at the John Deere F series? Its designed to fit into tight orchards.

I did look into a 100F model and there was only one locally for $33k with 201 hours. My main concern with this one was that it was an italian made tractor and it seems to be more rare than the M or EN series, that the parts might be on the more expensive side.

My Dealer quoted me ~$37k OTD for a 5101EN, 2010 model with 1000 hours with 5 years /5000 hour warranty. I might end up getting this one.

By the way, this tractor came in two tire configurations. It was either:

Fronts 10.5/80-18 | Rears: 16.9-24
or
Fronts 10.5/80-18 | Rears: 14.9-28

Which of these two are the bigger tire setup?

Almost all narrow tractors are made in Italy including the CNH tractors your looking at. I wouldn't worry about that too much.

As for the tires, the fronts are the same the rear 14.9-28 will be taller then the 16.9-24 but the 16.9 is wider. The first number is the width of the tire and the second is the rim size.
