I'm shopping for a tractor and have come across two Kubota's- a M7040 and a M9540- that I really like. The problem is, the spec's for both tractors say that the 3 point hitch system is Cat. 2 only. Most of my implements are Cat. 2, but I have a set of United 24x20 discs that have standard Cat. 1 pins; it wasn't a problem on my old tractor, a JD 4020, because you could reconfigure the sway blocks for the difference in width between Cat 1 and 2. It was a pain, but at least it was adjustable.

Bottom line, is it possible to use Cat 1 implements with one of the Cat. 2 only Kubota's?

I assume the the hitch on the disk is not adjustable for width...

That is correct, it has standard Cat. 1 lift arms bolted into the frame. The lift arm dia. issue is easily addressed with bushings, what I'm trying to figure out if the lower arms on a M9540 or M7040 will swing in tight enough.

When I looked at the tractors I didn't think to measure min. width or study how Kubota controls lower arm width (stabilizer bar? sway blocks? chains?) and whether it was adjustable.

I nearly bought a M9540 after I bought my L5740. Never looked to see if the 95 lift arms would go close enough together for cat1 implements. I'm no help...

They should be okay!

I have a M7040 and use a lot of CAT I implements with no trouble at all. The "check chains" are telescoping so adjust easily.

You do need to put CAT 1 to CAT 2 bushings on the implement so they pins are large enough to fit tightly on the tractor. The bushings are less than $2 each at Tractor Supply or any tractor dealer.

You can hook it up fine. Although I mostly use my M9540 with a batwing cutter, I have had cat 1 attachments on it.

What they said, you have a lot of adjustment and we too have used cat one on our M8540 and previous Case CX80.

As stated cat l implements will attach to 3 pt hitch with the aid of bushings on the Kubota tractors mentioned a lot easier that turning the sway blocks on the 4020. I frequently use Cat l implements on my M7040

I think you'd just shim your Cat2 down to Cat 1 with standard SpeeCo shims and hook up.
