Cat Dump Truck on Low boy

Well this is different for me, found this in Decator, ILL. home of the Cat Big Truck Assembly Center. This must be a large Dump truck, seeing as it takes up all of this low boy. I wil have other photos of this day, of course these will be on rail flat cars.

O.K. here is a smaller Dump truck on flat car, this one is heading for Sydney, weighing in at 82,882 lbs for this half of the truck. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

When I worked for TRW we made the steering ball joints for the CAT 400 ton dump truck. The ball was about the size of a soft ball and with the threaded end on it, it weighed about 50 lbs.

It looks like a 797 haulpak. It can haul 360 tons & weighs about 700,000 lbs. empty. The tires are 13' tall, it's 25' wide, 24' tall & 50' long. It has a 3400 hp. diesel that runs electric motors on each wheel. They have to drive on the left side of the road because they have a 75' blind spot on the right side and can't see the right shoulder. Also if they hit head on they hit passenger side to passenger side. I'm around these trucks all of the time in the copper mines because I haul sulfuric acid in an 18 wheeler from the smelter to all of the other mines. When I pull up beside one, I'm eye to eye with the center of the rims. We got to watch a film of one of these trucks driving over a ford pickup. It was like a pickup driving over a soda pop can!

Boomerang- What kind of machine do they load those with??? Oh, I was checking out the specs on caterpillar.com, and somebody's #'s are off for dimensions- they list 250' x 360' by 500'. Did you miss zeros or did they add a few???

They use a shovel that looks like the old steam shovel. The bucket empties out the bottom and is about 20 feet x 20 feet. They can load 360 (three hundred sixty) ton in 3 or 4 scoops. Thats 720,000 lbs of ore in 1 truck. The size of the trucks are 50 feet long, 25 feet wide and about 24 feet tall. The driver sits 20 feet high. The mines here use 240 ton and 360 ton trucks. Gross weight of the 360 ton truck is 1 million pounds. I think they can hit about 40 to 45 mph when loaded. The pit they work in is about 4 miles across.
