Newby question here, can implements (bush hog box blade, etc) designed for a CAT I three point hitch be adapted/modified to fit a CAT II three point hitch (MF 285)? Or can the CAT II hitch be adapted/modified to use the CAT I implements? Is the CAT II PTO shaft different? Thanks in advance for your help/patience.

Most all CAT II tractors can use CAT I implements with the use of bushings or different hitch pins and possibly moving sway blocks/sway chains or bars. CAT I is designed for 50 hp and lower. CAT II is 50 HP to 100HP. Implements designed for CAT I can fold like a tent if too much force is applied. CAT II implements are generally too wide to convert to use as CAT I with some exceptions. A good many implements that are sized for 40 to 60 hp applications are built to accomodate both catagories.

The pto shafts are not related to the hitch size but as to the horsepower needed to run the implement.

I've got an 8 foot Cat II blade mounted on a Cat I MF 2135. I bought 2 lower link Cat I pins with the Cat II thread and mounted them inward. Also on some of the Cat II tractors like John Deere the 3 point can be converted to Cat I and then use bushings on the pins. That way you can run a Cat I post hole digger, etc.

I have one cat-II tractor and two cat-I tractors and most all of my implements are cat-I. All of the cat-I implements work on the cat-II tractor using bushings you can purchase at Tractor Supply Corp (TSC).
