I thought all the Deere excavators where repained Hitachi's that they took out the Isuzu engine and put in the Deere engine. Does Deere make an excavator of their own?
Deere rebadges an aweful lot fo their stuff. Excavators, dumpt trucks and their bigger dozers.
Tekushi is supposed to be really good, but for the smaller excavators, Bobcat sure has a big following. I'd price those parts on a Cat and compare them to the others. I've heard stories of electronics quiting and costing over a grand to replace. That might be true with all of them too.
Is a 4 ton machine on rubber tracks or metal? Does it have a blade? Didn't your dad buy one a few years ago? How big was that and why get another?

Takeuchi has a great reputation but I don't know of any local dealer. There is a major rental yard that carries them but thats it. There are not any around this area so support would be a concern for me.
I would go with the rubber tracks (some had the option of steel or rubber) as using this around houses and on pavement the rubber tracks would be better suited. It will have a blade.
My grandfather bought one from DarinRay on here. It was a one ton toy. It is way too small for anything but very specific jobs like digging a trench for a water or service line. It has a very limited reach and dig depth and is extremely tippy and his has no Rops or protective structure.
I picked the 4 ton range as these machines tend to be 5' wide and that would allow me to work around most houses as well as in the vineyard where I am extremely limited on space. But 4 ton is also capable enough to do plenty of bigger projects as well and be versatile for farm, construction and landscaping. Three things I deal with. And being 4 ton keeps it in my towing range without having to buy a bigger trailer.
