We have a cat and I know it is just a matter of time before this cat has a run in with a good size snake here in the mountains. The cat has already killed a couple of small snakes. I was wondering what others have experienced? How big of a snake can this cat take on and win? Will the cat avoid a large snake or fight it?

I've heard some stories in the past about cats underestimating snakes, so I'd be inclined to believe that the cat will take it on.

We have the same problem with the dogs. We often find a snake chewed in half. One dog was bitten above the eye a couple of weeks ago and it bled like a stuck pig. Fortunately it was a non venemous snake, but we are dreading the day when they pick on the wrong snake. Always have your vet number handy.
Actually was this dog shown.

Cats do a pretty good job avoiding being bitten by snakes. Dogs, not so much because they can't jump like cats.

We have a Bengal that catches snakes all the time. He even kills rattlers up to about 3 feet. I don't know how he does it but he is fast.

One of the dogs has been bit three times by rattlers I took him to the vet the first time $500 for antivenom. The last time I just gave him some anti biotics and he was fine the next day.

They must build up some type of imunity.

I have a lab that's face swelled up to the size of a basketball and I'm not joking he almost died . I had to mix food In a syringe and inject food down his throat for a week the vet said that it wad too late by the time o got him there to do anything he said it was proBley a copperhead because a rattler would have killed him are you sure your dog was bit by a rattler or could it have been a copper head

I lost one 2 year old cat to snake bite, two pink marks on her white chest.
I saved another when I saw him jump backwards and when I looked he was messing with a Cottonmouth. I killed it with a shovel after chasing him away from it!

I've had cats since I was kid, and that's a long time! They will try to fight dam# near anything, depending on the cat. Mine now are afraid of large dogs after two of them killed another of our cats about 3 years ago, but cats will fight foxes, coyotes, snakes, eagles, bears, etc... often losing in the process. Don't get me wrong, a healthy cat that gets lots of exercise and is at least average size will win most battles with critters up to 2-3 times it's size, but snakes, and coyotes that are willing to take the punishment to get the meal will be a big challenge for them. Smaller snakes stand no chance against healthy cats.
