I'm just now seeing (hahahaha) this thread. Pardon that I'm so tardy.

<snip>

As I'm sitting here typing, looking through my glasses, everything (EVERYTHING) is fine & super. Maybe later today, maybe in three months.... I might experience what I'd call an "opaque curtain / blob" that will appear. Usually it's on the upper half of my field of view but, it might be to the side. It's not a straight line difference... more like maybe someone spread some vasoline over part of my eye blocking or softening the covered portion. <snip>
My wife had similar, or so she said, called Kaiser they said no problem they were probably "floaters". Then it got worse and she is being treated for "Wet AMD", about 1 shot in each eye of Eylea HD, every 6 weeks (now, hoping to stretch it to 16 weeks) for life. Glad my insurance covers it so far.
From the web:
The cost for Eylea HD (114.3 mg/mL) intravitreal solution is around $2,774 for a supply of 0.07 milliliters, depending on the pharmacy you visit. Quoted prices are for cash-paying customers and are not valid with insurance plans.
And that's the cost of the drug per shot per eye. not including the cost of the doctor shooting it in your eye. And of course the shot is not like a diabetes insulin shot, no DIY.
Get it checked again.
/edit - her vision got so she had large black blobs in the center of her vision, the treatment is them causing them to become more translucent.

Question if I may...can you describe the curtain? Maybe I'll describe why.

1. I now where bifocals/progressives. (went from eagle eyes, straight to to bifocals)
2. I told the doc about the following:

It's not a straight line difference... more like maybe someone spread some vasoline over part of my eye blocking or softening the covered portion. I feel ZERO pain, ZERO discomfort, ZERO anything. It's literally like a shade..... I can blink, quickly move eyes and the shadow would still be there. It might droop down to cover more than the starting amount. Meaning, instead of covering 15% of my field of view, it might go to 25%. Then....20-30 minutes later, it clears up, gone, as though it never happened. It's annoying but so far, I don't feel any threats by it.

Went to the Eye Doc (he's now retired, but was opthomolithist however I know I butchered the spelling!)

If I recall his comment, he wasn't worried....he saw nothing. I have them do all the optional (that I pay for instead of insurance) pictures & scans so we have baseline measurements. If I recall his comment, it was something like "if this happens and you're near a hospital, maybe go to the emergency room and get an X-ray.... It might be (or did he say he wondered if?)

Anyway, it might be an ischytmitic (spelled wrong again) attack and if it is, I might need medical attention.

WHA?

It happens so infrequently, just several times a year, I usually have forgotten about it. But the way I'd describe it is like a shade being pulled over part of my eye so, your description caught my eye (no pun intended!)

:)

I realize this isn't a medical forum lol, but if you/anyone has any thoughts......
I would go see a good ophthalmologist promptly. Curtains across your vision are never a sign of health. There are a number of possibilities, but not being an MD, I would not like to send you down the wrong path.

When you make the appointment, tell them about the curtains.

All the best,

Peter

Since this condition of yours comes and goes then it is not retinal detachment. Once a retinal detachment happens it is permanent UNLESS the eye surgeon can go in and reattach the retina. They can reattach depending on the particular case, some detachments cannot be fixed.

Have you had a "posterior vitreous detachment"? I had that happen to both eyes. That releases all sorts of crap into the interior of the eye. In my case, I had dark masses (not just little specks that are called floaters) that obscured the vision. Same as with your description, like someone had smeared dark Vaseline on my eyes. At first I could move my head around, or my eyes, and the masses would move out of the way and I see clearly again. But over time the dark masses got worse, to where I could not move them out of the way. My ophthalmologist recommended a "vitrectomy". Essentially, the ophthalmologist removes the vitreous material (which is where those dark masses reside) in the eyeball and replaces it with something like saline. I had that done 3 years ago and am VERY happy with the results. All that dark crap I used to have to try to see through, that gave me eyestrain and double vision at times, is gone. Crystal clear vision.

Nice explanation, and one of the possibilities that I had concerns about for @Richard ...

vitreous detachment - has different types of approaches to treatments of a problem. In your case drain and refill with saline. Vitreous treatment with retinal detachments depending on where the detachment is, gas is an option. The issue here is one cannot see for a while until the vitreous naturally builds up again. The back of your eyes is very important.
