2 Acres of woods and a new home in State College, Pa. FEL and MMM with Ballast Box on my new 1026R Series I subcompact with Turf Tires and chains when I need it. A whole 8.1. hours in to this beast. I use the ROP and follow the safety recommendations, cause I am retired and do this for fun. I spec'd out a new trailer to haul. 10', 5200# single axel with ballast box holder over the front rail and 5' ramps. PJ Trailer. I'll let you know if this was a good project. The downsized (10') trailer with ballast box over the rail idea will fit in my garage. No trailers allowed in view of the neighbors. I have the 60" drive over mower and the 120H FEL that is easy to attach. I don't like the ballast box, but JD says to use it or break the front axel and eat it yourself. I am still learning and enjoy your great wisdom. Only in America can we do this! God Bless America and everyone who can own a tractor. BJ

Welcome from another PA'er (and a PSU grad -- I miss State College -- it's beautiful up there!)

Welcome new JD owner. It's Deere's position that when the FEL is mounted you must have a ballast box on the machine ... or run the risk of breaking the front axle ? I have a 53" bucket on my garage built FEL ( 4110 ). Loaded it with sand, rock, granite and my front axle is still in one piece. The machine should be speced out for at a minimum loader and material weight axle casting . I wonder if the engineering department is lowering the build standards for the castings on the newest models. The narrow stance makes it look bullet proof.
