Cats and bereavment

I have dealt with this several times. It will pass but your cat will be depressed until you provide him/her with another friend.

Anyone every dealt with this? They say that some cats do mourn the loss of a companion and that you should avoid any upset in daily routine and offer more attention.

Poor guy seems to be taking it hard.

My Son's English Bulldog died of cancer a couple of weeks ago...he was 10 yrs. old...Then one of his cats, Lilly, was attacked and taken away by either dogs or coyotes...his one remaining cat, Tigger who was 14 yrs. old walked around lost amd moping for a week and then disappeared ...the last I saw here or anyone has was last Saturday she came to me and rubbed up against me and I petted her for a bit...then she was gone...We don't know if she died of a broken heart, went looking for her pal, Lillie or was also taken by Coyotes or wild dogs...So my son has lost all three of his pets in a month...he is taking it really hard...as we all are...so yes I have seen a cat mourn the loss of her pal and playmate first hand. I hope yours will be fine....

Sorry to hear this brin.

On a lighter note, my sister Peg had a cat named Theresa for many years ...fifteen or more. Peg would, on occasion, take in a stray kitten, usually much to Theresa's dismay. The older Theresa got, the less accommodating she was to the newcomers. One day Peg brought home yet another kitten and within a few days Theresa decided she'd had enough and moved in with an elderly couple that lived a few doors down. She'd been getting extra meals with them for some time and I guess decided that no matter all her years with Peg, she'd had enough and was going exercise her options.

brin; that has to be so very hard. My thoughts go out to your son. Critters leave paw prints on our hearts.
