We all know they are strong ... question is how long will they stay there?

Would you buy bred heifers at todays prices?

On my traveling around I don't see the feed lots filled and going to auctions in northern part of the country the sales where there were maybe 100 buyers and yard full of cattle are now small pen to one side a dozen buyers.
Have not seen a buyer purchase a pot load in some time.
Lease my property now and the man paying the bills is looking for young yearlings.
Also where the dairy's were having a complete disposal sales.Know of 2 restarting there barns. feed is abundant and milk prices are up .
If you could see a years feed available and had land for grazing the bred heifers may be a good buy
What is it like in Southern Okla.

Ive not been to the local stockyard in some time ... folks talk about it as though its good. Neighbor said he got some record prices for 4-500 lbrs something like $3 a lb ... OKC reports 35K head run thru in November.

No dairies around us ... alot of cow/calf operations ... seems bred heifers and cows are $2500-4000 depending on breed, age and such.

Prices are high yes. But I don't expect them to stay. Corn is down. I expect to see prices soften over the next 12-18 months baring a natural disaster ie. Drought. Large floods or wet spring and no corn planted. Yes the cow herd is still very low and demand is good but I also expect to see an increase in calving as replacements have been kept. This should help increase supply. I believe that prices will stabilize once the herd is built back. Might even see some ground move from crops back to pasture. Just my opinion.

Would have loved to buy some replacement heifers last year. But just wasn't comfortable in doing so. So I just kept all of mine as replacements. But that did force me to buy a new bull.
