While standing outside slipping on hot coffee talking w/John & Frank this morning, guy came working over and ask John if he could borrow his tractor for clean up today...John didn't even know this guy and John one or those quick whitted ones...John's reply"Did I ask you if a could borrow your wife"...talk about silents in the air WOW,and when the guy was leaving the store he gave quick cold hard stare.....talk about the nerve of some.

Tractor for a wife...
If the guy had said yes, John would've gotten the short end on that deal.

I've always admired that kind of nerve, mainly because I don't have it, I'll wait my turn in a line of traffic while other cars cut the line, I know they're wrong but they're on their way and I'm stuck at the light.

On the other hand is the theory of
-you never know until you ask-.

If John didn't know this guy, I'm assuming he didn't know this guys wife as well. What would of happen if the guy asking to use John's tractor said in response to Johns question "sure, you can have her for the weekend"?

I'd make sure you know what she looks like first:)

I think that was an easy response.. it would have been much harder if he actually known the guy.. After reading way too many stories on here, I have decided the only way I loan out anything of value (truck/tractor/generator/wife hehe) im going along with it.. If they need to borrow a wheelbarrow or inexpensive hand tool it can go alone

Same here. I don't lend anything unless I don't need it back; I don't borrow anything I can't replace.
