Just wondering, how many members out there really consider them selves caught up on the affairs of rural living?
After forty two years on the same place and after a years retirement one would think all the ducks would be in order to allow at least a little 'sit time'.
Seems like ya just get one thing fixed and two other things need attention. We've leased all the crop land so no longer have that scramble to worry about but on any day of the week, something rises to the top of the 'to do list' and that doesn't include the good spouse's honey do's.
Well, that being stated, when my travels necessitate a trip to town cruising through suburbia I'm thankful my K-9 buddies and I can still p-- off the porch when necessary.
Thank God, I'm a country boy.

I have been at my place for 3 years. I'm trying to build a horse boarding business to take me into retirement. Your right you never get caught up. Plus I have in addition to the wife, the horse women screaming for run ins more stalls get hay why can't you ride with us haul my horse this weekend. The list goes on. I start something then something else comes along.
Yesterday I came home I saddled a horse and took off til dark. Man that was nice to get away. Went down to the lake and rode back up through a creek bed pretending I was 150 years ago.
Today right back at it getting ready for the rain to come in tonite. But like said its nice to be in the country. You just have to stop once every 2 or 3 months and enjoy it. And if the boarders aren't around we can pee most anywhere.

Retired in 1989 and built a new home on 110 acres out in the country , can't see any neighbors and just love it . You are right about never getting caught up but that's the fun of it I guess . There aren't to many days go by that I don't use one of my tractors or both . I am starting to get ready for winter now so that takes up some time for sure . We sure could use some of that rain here as it is so dry . Hats off to all the country boys .

If you always have stuff to do, you'll have all the more reason to keep living, which goes a long way to having a long, productive, and reasonably happy life.

The day you no longer have anything to do, or the day you become perfect, is the last day you have left to live. The first one, you have no reason left to live; the second one, God has more work for you to do elsewhere.

Depends on what is meant by being caught up, I guess.

Listen to the Toby Keith song "My List" a few times.

It tries to put this stuff into perspective.

I gave up worrying about being caught up years ago. I just trudge along doing what is needed as it pops up. Been that way for the 32 years I've been out here. I can work like a galley slave preparing for the upcoming season and "things" still continue to pop up. That's part of country living.

I don't have any "have to do" things on the list, but have lots of "want to do" on the list. Staying busy is much better for me than doing nothing or God forbid, watching TV.

I always try to have something to do. I sometimes day a day off to just lollygag around the house but after a few hours of computer or TV, I get restless.
If I don't come up with a plan for my place then I volunteer to help a neighbor. Yesterday, I helped dig out some sediment dirt from a pond that had dried up a lot due to lack of rain. The day before I helped my neighbor out by cleaning out his rain gutters of leaves and debris on his house, then helped my brother in law install a storm door which pretty well filled my day.
Tonight we are going over to my rain gutter neighbor for a chili supper and some Samba card playing. While writing this, I just realized that we didn't clean out the gutters on his detached garage which likely are just as filled with leaves.

When we moved out I had a friend tell me this. You'll always have something to do so take time to enjoy where you live. I'm trying...
