Massey Ferguson 290
Hello everyone! I have struggled with my Massey Ferguson 290 for quite some time now. Problem startet when the tractor spit out black smoke and died. The the system was clogged , and I had to change the fuel filter. It didn't help, so I checked the diesel pump, and sure enough, it was full of brownish gel. After watching Bundy bear's youtube video on how to renovate and reseal the diesel pump. I managed to get the diesel pump cleaned and resealed. One thing when I cleaned everything, I noticed that on the diesel pump's endplate, where there is a small pin that can go on the left side or right side, after I cleaned the endplate in some diesel, there now was a hole straight through. I thought maybe the previous owner had changed the location of that pin, maybe knocked it too far in, thus weakened the metal or maybe fixed it with some jb-weld or something. Anyways, it was not leaking there before. I tried to temporarely solder that hole, and when mounting everything back together, and bleeding the fuel system, the tractor started up nicely. I was very happy, and let it run for about 20 minuts. Then I saw there was a spray of fine diesel mist coming from where I had soldered that hole. So I decided to wait for a new endplate from china.

While I waited for the endplate, I also changed the mechanical lift pump, since it looked old and dirty. Next problem was when I ordered that lift pump, the supplier recommended 1/4" rubber fittings for the in/outlet of the lift pump and also for the entrance tube to the fuel filter holder.
So later when I checked with Massey Ferguson, those rubber gaskets, it's supposed to be 5/16" rubber gaskets on the in/outlet on the lift pump and also 5/16" on the inlet to the fuel filter. The outer diameter of those gaskets are probably sufficiently similar, but the 5/16" rubber gaskets does also have significantly thinner walls, so they let the fuel fittings further inn before creating resistance and thus not putting too much pressure on the outer threads to early. That's how I damaged the threads.

I took that part where the in/outlet and the valves are, from the old lift pump, fitted that with the other halv of the new lift pump and mounted everything back.

Still not working. When I want to bleed the fuel system I push the lever on the lift pump, and it pumps away, however, after about 15-20 pumps it gradually looses all compression and is obviously not pumping anymore. If I wait for a few seconds I get a little compression again, but compression gets quickly lost again.

I get fuel out of the lower vent screw and the upper vent on the diesel pump, however, there's not much pressure on the upper. Also when loosening the connections at the injectors, there is just one or two drips per second of diesel coming there when I crank the start engine. I think I remember more pressure from both the upper vent screw and from the injectors, last time when it worked!?

I suspect the lift pump being the problem. So question is. If it looses compression after some pumps, is that normal or is it a definite sign of a faulty lift pump?

I also tried those 5/16" gaskets on the other sender and return line on the fuel filter, but then I had a small leak. So I am also wondering if those thinner gaskets are more prone to leaks and that the 1/4" gaskets only needs more carefully assembling? If the lift pump is loosing compression after about equally number of pumps every time, isn't that a sign of a small air leak. Or is it maybe the valves, in the lift pump part I "stole" from the old lift pump?

Sorry for the lengthy and perhaps a bit unclear articulation of my question, (english is obviously not my first language :D )
Hope some of you may have some valuable insight into this. Thanks in advance.
