I am new to this forum and look forward to participating. My cub has been good to me so far so I haven't had to do much too it... Unfortunately, One of the self unloading hydro release valves on top of the hydro has sprung a leak out of the small hole in top. I cant believe they are $90 a piece! My question is...can I plug the small hole and put it back in use or will it make the valve malfunction? I was thinking of putting a quick weld right on it. I look forward to your advice...thanks, Chuck

Those valves are check valves and have spring loaded balls or plungers in them. Sometimes a piece of dirt can get lodged in the valve (don't ask me how it can get in there). If you have an air compressor try sloshing the valve around in kerosene or diesel fuel and blowing air into the hole. I cured leakage on a 1450 a couple of times that way but eventually I had to replace one valve.

That 90 bucks is a shock, isn't it!! The good news is, they show up on eBay pretty often. I'd have to agree with cleaning to start with. Don't try to take the valve itself apart! Tried that, too! /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Sometimes(last resort?) with the valves is to carefully do some full forward> to full reverse< with the tractor on a paved surface. This causes the valve to open momentarily which will flush out the debris causing it not to seat properly. Use your discretion and don't do any "wheelies" or worse. try it slowly and increase the speed as you become more comfortable that you can safely do this. Repeat several times and it should stop leaking. This trick has worked many times for us. You may find out that the fluid/filter is due for a change then to prevent repeat leakage.

Well, I welded the hole shut tonight to see what would happen and it stopped the leak!! Unfortunately, I also lost all forward motion. I guess it was worth a try. At this point, I am off to the dealer to drop $100 for a new one. Thanks for your advice, Chuck
