I have an 05 CC2042 and it has performed perfectly all season. This past Saturday, I was in the process of moving equipment around in my shed in preparation for winter up here in New Hampshire. I started the tractor and when I went to back up, it was very sluggish and after about 15 feet of backing up, it stopped. I shut it down and checked all the fluids (engine, tranny, rear) and everything is full. The engine didn't rev up = so it didn't sound like the tranny was slipping. I was concerned that something serious could be happening, so I pulled the lever on the rear and have now storred it for the winter.

Note: It was about 20 degrees = should I have warmed it up for a while?
Any ideas?
Thanks,
JohnNH

Any chance you left the parking brake on? I've done that a few times and the symptoms sound like what you've described. Were you intending on storing it for the winter? If it's working properly, it could be a big help with all your snow /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Rob,

Brake was off. I am storing the tractor in my shed = out of the way. I have a 10HP snow blower that I use. I have someone plow my driveway = over 200' long, 2 cars wide and a 50 by 75 turn around. The snow blower does the paths to the house, shed, etc.

When I am ready to retire the snow blower, I will buy a blower for the tractor (large price).

Thanks,
John

Bad gas or water in it - I would have looked at it more before storing it for winter - why eat up your warranty in storage (not saying this requires it but you never know)

I would pull the gas filter to see if gas flows good
throw some gas treatment as well as Stabil in it once you get it going again.

Very good advice. Especially concerning the warranty. Repairs can be extremely expensive. Amount of use doesn't seem to matter, but the amount of time you own the machine does.

ducatti996 and all,

You hit it right. I took your advice and pulled the tractor out of the shed, checked the filter and had a combination of water and what looked like a grain like residue ( This made me check the gas can that I used last and this was the culprit = must have left the lid off and invited foreign substance into can). I cleaned the fuel line, drained and cleaned the tank (that was fun), replaced the filter, and it ran great. I had already put some stabilizer in and put new stabil in the fresh load of gas. Note, the fluids are all full and circulated, I re-greased and lubricated every possible moving part and it's back in storage again (It's close to the shed door and easy to pull out during the winter if needed).

As always, thanks for all the help.

Its always good to hear!!

Cubs been taking a beating lately and as it turns out more than a few beatings were mis-directed towards Cub /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Good to hear you are back in action. Maybe it's a good thing the gas filler opening is almost big enough to reach your arm in /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif!
G/luck

Joel,
I used a little yankee creativity. I used a 12 volt bildge pump attached to a flexible hose (boat stuff that I had laying around). it did a great job of getting the fuel out and even provided enough suction to clean out the tank I reduced the size with a short section of plastic tube and used that to clean out the gas line.

Note: Without the help of the people on this outstanding board, I would likely have called the dealer and donated some Christmas money.

Thanks again,
John

12V bilge pump?? Good idea, but that makes be a little nervous. Bilge pumps (I don't think) are rated to pump flammable liquids. 12V DC motors use brushes, and brushes make sparks. Spark + Gasoline = BOOM!

I'd consider yourself lucky you didn't go up in flames with your nice Cub.

Am I off base here?

Chris
