During my last mowing, my deck got noisy. Thought maybe it just needed cleaning. Removed and found it clean with no apparent problems (Bent Blades, Bad belt, etc). Removed the deck belt and checked all the pulleys. Found a grease fitting I had missed located between the main dual drive pully. Pumped in lots of grease before getting a return. Found another idler pulley on the fron side of the deck had some side slack. no way to grease it. Reassembled and installed. Checked out and had the same noise.
Loaded it up and carried it to my dealer. Sure enough, the idler pulley I had checked was bad and had to be replaced. The mechanic added a large spacer to the bottom of the deck where th pulley was mounted in case the deck was flexing. Said he had never had to replace one before. Get used to the sound of the normal hum and be alert to a noise change just in case.

Thats the killer I forgot to to post. Three months old with 32 hours total time, and not all of that used the deck. The pulley is a plastic bushing type with no way to grease. It is mounted on a spacer with a 5/16 bolt. The service mech added the spacer to the bottom of the deck to give the nut something more solid to work against than the small area on the deck. I asked him about oiling and he said he wouldn't. Sand and grit can mix with the oil and possibly cause more problems. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Interesting. CC must do some mixing/matching. Just had the deck off my CC 2544 for a cleaning/inspection/greasing @ just over 20hrs. Mine has no plastic pullies. Both flat idler wheels are stamped steel & sealed (not greaseable). I did find one close call underneath /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif! There are (4) 9/16" bolts and nuts that hold a cradle assembly for the F and R pedals to the frame. One of the 9/16" nuts was only hanging on by 2 threads if I was lucky. Snugged it back up and all is well. It was the only loose fastener I could find. It pays to get under their and check!
G/luck
