CC2544
Recently purchased the CC2544. Have run into some problems that I feel are worth sharing.
Electrical: Blowing main fuse (25amp)
Problem: Poor wiring routing. The headlight wiring on the left had an excessive wiring loop, which was contacting the heat shield. Power wire (red) melted and shorted out. Also, the wiring loom routing on the right had touched the heat shield and melted the wiring loom in half and insulation on the wires was gone. Redressed and rerouted to keep away from the heat shields. Believe this will affect all Cubs with the horizontal Kohler engine.
Engine overheats: The only air passage to cool the engine is pulled in via the system located behind the firewall. Because outside air can be pulled in below the engine, the screen is very easily clogged. Blowing out with compressed air is the best method for cleaning until I can figure out a blocking shield which will only allow air thru the inlets located on the front and sides of of the instrument panel as it was designed to do. Otherwise, it is a smooth running piece of equipment for it's price.

Good info! That was one of the first things I did with my 2544. Bundled & zip-tied that headlight harness out of the way, secured that LARGE wire loom on the right side with cable ties and slightly re-routed & neatened up those fuse holders that just kinda dangle around near the battery. I'll have to keep an eye on those cooling screens /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif. Cub definately has to SLOW DOWN on the production of these units & pay more attention to detail. My gripes on this machine: 1) Wiring layout. 2) Poor quality & placement of those cheesy stickers/labels/reflectors 3) Dash layout. I can't see the choke and PTO knobs when I'm seated behind the wheel. I have to just feel around for them. Overall, the quality of the hardware and the construction of the machine are great, it rides well, it's quiet, comfortable, smooth & cuts excellent.

Completely agree on all points. Glad you mentioned your knees /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I forgot to mention the crummy seat adjust setup. I am only 5'6" with legs to match my height. The seat is too close to the steering column and controls at it's furtherest back. It only goes forward!! My brother-in-law is 6'2" and won't buy one because of this arrangement. Also, mine would't slide forward until I loosened the four mounting bolts /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif how weird is that?

Yep, they still are not as roomy as a deere, simplicity or kubota behind the wheel, but have you tried a pre 2005 cub? (2000/2500 series) They are way worse. Atleast our 2005's have a higher seat mount that gives slightly more leg room and another 1" of rearward movement over last year's model. I agree though. It still needs more rearward seat adjustability. I can't figure it out why either. There is plenty of room behind the seat yet /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
