I am about to purchase the CC2554 and have done a ton of research on the machine and am totally in love with it. With that being said I am upset at the fact the tiller implement costs almost as much as the tractor. I was wondering if there is an after market tiller that I can use with it. If so what do I need to get for the 2554 to make it work? I looked at some other options for this on different websites (Agri-Fab and Brinly Hardy) How do these attachment attach to the tractor? Is there a certain part I need to get with my upcoming purchase to ensure the things work with my tractor?

This is the tractor I've been looking at. The attachments are very expensive. That's a big reason why I haven't bought mine yet. I've also done extensive research on this tractor, and basically the attachments slide into the frame on both, the front and back of the tractor. Instead of simply hooking onto the frame, like the 1000 series. The gauge of steel is also much thicker. So, I guess that accounts for higher cost? Good luck in finding off-brand attachments. I'll be following your post closely. Keep me posted on how you like your tractor. From the responses I've received from my posts, people that own them love them.

Hello I have a 2554 and yes you will love it. as far as attachments yes they are expensive but they are going to be for any make or model so don't let that hold you back from this great machine. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Boss2554,

I think that the CC tiller is operated off of the 2554's pto which also operates the mower deck. You also might need the CC electric sleeve hitch to lower and raise the rear tiller. I'm not totally sure, so check with the CC dealer that you are buying the 2554 from.

From what I can see, Brinly-Hardy does not make/sell a rear tiller. Agri-Fab and Craftsman do have rear tillers. Agri-Fab and Brinly-Hardy make a lot of the attachments that Sears, Tractor Supply, Lowes and Home Depot sell. The Agri-Fab and Craftsman tillers require only a pin type rear hitch to pull their tillers with. This is the normal hitch that all lawn and garden tractors have that come standard on the rear of the tractor.

Personally, I like to add a 6" straight piece of 1/4" thick steel extension off the back of the pin type stanard hitch. This will give you some added space between the 2554 and what ever you are pulling. This extension will keep what ever attachment you are pulling from bumping into your 2554 when making a sharp turn. I hope this info is helpful for you.

Cub attachments are really expensive and they don't have a whole lot of them. As far as a tiller goes, as cool as it would be for me to hook up a $2400 tiller to my rig, I could have a garde done with my Pony in short order.

The tiller attachments are really cool, but, I think if I was tilling, I'd rather be behind a Horse or Big Red. Unless you have a ton of area to till, a large walk behind makes more sense and you get better use from it.

Thanks guys for the replies on this. I was thinking about getting a seperate tiller instead of the attachment for the tractor as you all pointed out and this looks like the thing to do.
I do have 1 last reservation about the 2554. It has a 2.25 gal tank and even while every other series, from CC, has a bigger tank then it. Does the smaller tank ever come into play with you all. The yard i will be mowing is about 3.25 acres.
Thanks for any and all input.

The tiller is very nice and does a superb job. However, unless you have a VERY substantial garden you'd be better served with a walk behind. I have a large garden and came across a STEAL on an in crate tiller last spring (a little over $850 to my door). Needless to say I bought (stole) it. There is no way I would have ever paid full retail on the tiller. Even at $850 I'm not sure I will get my money's worth out of it ... only using it spring and fall. Still need a walk behind if you want to till between rows during hte growing season ... or a cultivator attachment.

As far as the gas tank, yes it is small. I believe they had to cut down on the size to have enought room for the trans-axle. Takes a little getting used to ... but I only ran out of gas once, so far. You'll learn to keep the can close by, and how much you can mow before you need to refill.

They are a very nice machine.
