I thought I would update those that have read some of my post over my old SLT 1554 tractor.

I bought a SLT 1554 from a dealer, well last year it started having difficulty going up hills with a bagger system attached to the back end. The dealer looked it over and could not find a thing. Tried using it with a roller this year up some 25% slopes, well it could not do it before the transmission went into bypass mode. Please note that it did pull the roller on flat areas pretty good. The transmission did seem to wine doing it.

Talked to the dealer again and suggested I called CC directly with my problem. So I called CC and talked with a technician there and he said that the SLT 1554 was not made to pull larger rollers up hills. I called the dealer back and said that this isn't going to work for me. He then called CC and they took the tractor back, it had only 28 hours on it for full price including taxes.

Well I bought the 2554 for a extra $1400 and it showed up Friday afternoon. I put it thru some test already and it has performed awsome. It goes up my 25% grade (which is probably a 15-20' climb) like it wasn't even there. Attached my pull cart to it with a heaping load of top soil, again it pulled up that cart as if it wasn't there.

So the moral of the story....
1. It looks like the 1000 series isn't made for much more than mowing flat areas. It's a good tractor for doing that.

2. I was going to buy from a big box store, sure glad I bought from a local dealer, who went too bat for me with CC. So buy from a local dealer, they will get too servicing the tractors they sell first before they have to deal with the box stores.

3. I love the 2554 with it's direct drive transmission. It does sit a bit taller and the seat springs seems to push you up like you are tilted forward too much. I may have to shorten them a touch (heck I weigh in a 220 lbs).

4. More good things about the 2554, they have a nice set of anti scalp wheels on the mower deck. The outside ones that sit in the front and the back on the outside do a excellant job of keeping the deck from digging into the ground on some of my slopes (the 1554 would dig in).

5. I mowed some grass with it and did just fine. Granted the grass was not very tall since I cut it less than a week ago and there hasn't been much rain to make it grow.

Good deal Steve! I just don't understand the 1554. It looks like a fine tractor. Some people have no issues at all with them & love them, others have nothing but problems. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I know about the improper setup theory, and the drive belt tensioner theory, but some still have problems after having been retrofitted and/or setup 100%. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif Consistancy is horrible with them.
