Just bought a CC2042. For years I had been dreaming "green", but when I started looking the CC had "green" beat in both features and price. I have had a little problem with it blowing fuses, but thanks to your postings I located the headlight wire burnt by the exhaust heat shield and the dealer is going to correct the problem. Thanks for your help and I will follow your postings.

Welcome,

I've learned a lot here. Some great posts in the various categories on all sorts of topics.

Congratulations on your new tractor!

I'd like to know what the dealer is going to do to "correct the problem". Were the wires just hanging down and need to be ty-rapped up? Or did the heat from the shield melt the wires without actually contacting them?

I've started to lift the hood after I shut mine down to let it cool off better. There's a lot of heat trapped in there! What a marvelous idea to put the plastic headlights directly above the muffler!

I bought my 2042 for the same reasons you state. I was also wanting at a green machine for many years, but the Kohler Command engine sold me on the CC. You'd have to spend a lot more for the same type of engine in a Deere.

In my case the wires were tied at the top to the hood hinge, but then just hung loose down beside the exhaust heat shield. I could actually see the burnt spot on the wiring and the heat shield also had a black arch spot where the wire had came in contact. I would hope the dealer replaces or repairs the wire loom and then reroutes the wires away from the exhaust heat sheild. I will keep you posted on how this turns out.

I checked mine today and I'm glad I did! One of the wires for the left headlight was touching the heat shield the extends up to cover the pipe. It looked like it had been getting hot. I ended up rotating the socket so the wires would exit in a better spot. It's a poor design, or the assemblers aren't putting it together right, I'm not sure which.

I'm beginning to think the design is correct but the people putting them together don't care that much. I wish I had known MTD "owned" Cub Cadet before I bought one... I guess I have to make the best of what I have. 'Twould be nice if they put them together better, sigh. Live and learn.

I wouldn't be too quick to condemn MTD...
Back in 1998 I bought a 'cheap' MTD snowblower from HD.
Since then, I have snowblowed an average of 180-200 inches of snow per year with many days in below zero conditions.
So far....in 7 seasons all I have had to do is change the oil and spark plug seasonally. Not bad for a 'cheap' machine.
I wouldn't worry about your Cub quality just because it is made by MTD. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Same here! Bought my Yard Man (yellow and green MTD)snowblower in 1999. It works and looks like new after 6 Buffalo winters. I've only changed the oil on it a few times.

Dealer just returned my 2042. He repaired and rerouted the headlight wiring away from the exhaust shield, hopefully that will correct the problem. Dealer said he had seen some of these problems a couple of years ago, but not many recently.
