Has anyone installed a switch on their CC 2042 or other models?

Other than the daytime running lights for safety = similar to automobile daytime running lights - I don't see the need.

I am considering installing a waterproof toggle switch and running the wires to/from the headlight wiring to turn them on/off.

Note: I disconnected my headlight wiring and ran them through heatshrink tubing to prevent melting of the insulation and potential shorting/grounding as identified in another post.

Any comments?

I’m thinking of doing the same thing or something similar (2544) to mine. I don’t understand why they just didn’t install on/off switch and let the operator decide if we want to run with our headlights on or off. I found this on the internet the other day, headlight kit that fits the 2000 and 3000 series Cub Cadet Lawn and Garden Tractors. The update includes a new style light bulb with a permanently affixed lens. If we can help

I haven’t called and checked on this, but it may have better insulated wires than the original, photos seems to show a much nicer product. This is just my opinion.

I had heard that on the 2042 they used the key switch 2nd position for the PTO in Reverse mode. Apparently, the headlights used to be wired to the key switch in prior models.

I asked my dealer for a wiring diagram for the 2042 but he didn't have one yet. I'd also like to run a switch, but I want to break the connection back at the instrument panel, not run wires all the way back from the headlights.

There is one fuse for the headlights, but it turns off the hourmeter too. If anyone knows which wire(s) to put a switch on, please let us know.

I'm looking to buy the LT 1042 model. Will I be having the same problem? I'm about ready to forget about a CC and buy a JD L111

Hang in there, the wiring problem (headlight) not a big deal. I believe that CC will have a replacement soon. Stay with the CC line for the best price for your dollar (IMO). Good luck with whatever choice you made, they are both good choices.
If you do buy a CC, just raise the hood and check to see where and how close wires are to the muffle heat shield. Have dealer re-route wires so that they are as far away as possible from heat shield.

I'm one picky son-of-a-... Heck, I took my new truck into the dealer for more little nit-noid problems, but that's just the way I am.
I really do like my CC. I haven't had any major problems with it, and my dealer is excellent.
I looked for quite a while for a new machine. I went to JD and looked and got prices. I checked out the big-box stores and determined they sold the lower end of the high grade stuff when it came to JD or CC. I went to my local CC dealer and looked at a 2042 and really liked it. I tell ya, that Kohler sounds sooo sweet when she's idling! And when you rev it on up, it sounds even better.
My dealer offered to give me the schematics for the lights, but he didn't have them on CD yet so he couldn't. He did give me schematics for last years model for a reference and told me to check back for the newer schematics.

You'll get a heck of a lot more machine for your money with the CC. I shopped around and compared... Get out and look at both and see if you agree.
