Cub Cadet series 3K
Hello.

First post here, go easy on me.

I purchased a series 3k a few months ago but i have not been able to find out what model i have. The label that is normally under the seat, is gone. I spoke with a dealer and they said there really is no way to figure out what exact model i have without that sticker.
I thought the pros here might be able to show me something.

Pictures online showing it looking alot like a ~'98-'99ish model year styling.

Some details of the mower are:
54" shaft drive deck.
Hydraulic hookups (F+R), behind and above the front left wheel.
Steel hood.
18HP OHV V-twin motor (no idea what brand/model).
CC/PS/tilt

I would like to find some attachments for it for the winter (snow thrower, maybe a blade, chains etc.).

Any .PDF links around or downloadable owners manuals with fluid specs and all the details etc?

Thanks guys, i'll be around! I really like this tractor.

Your info narrows it down to a 3184, 3185 or 3186. 3184 and 3186 would be a Kohler engine and 3185 Briggs. The steel hood makes me lean towards a 3185. I think Briggs still stamps the engine model number on the sheet metal. Kohler only uses a label.

Thank you for the response and info, that helps tremendously.

I dont have the diff lock lever either, if that helps some more. Wish i did since i mow a couple steep ditches on my property.

What spot(s) should i look for the engine designations (stamped or sticker) at, on the frame, or hood ...or? i've read some about an 18hp Vanguard, is that the B&S motor?

Any pictures?
I think oldmachinist is right on with his assessment. I believe the diff lock was on the 20+ HP models. Interesting it has the hydraulic lines, thats a great thing, easy to add a blower or blade. Do you have 2 or 3 levers on the left side of the seat? That will tell you how many hyd valves are installed.
How do you know it's an 18 HP?

I have 3 levers.
It says 18hp on the engine cover but not a make or model.

I can get pics, anything specific?

You guys are great.

Is there any other info i can give, that might help figure out a specific?

That engine looks just like my Vanguard. I would wager that it is a Briggs. The Vanguard is sooo smooth and quiet.

They are sensitive to the crankcase pressure/vacuum being maintained. There is an o-ring at the dip stick threads and a rubber grommet at the dipstick housing to block seal. This grommet is threaded into the block and gets brittle and cracks with age. When these seals are bad crank case oil will be pulled into the air filter housing and soak the filter.

Thanks for that bit of info. That might explain why she kind of rough idles (some rpm fluctuation) and spits and pops every once in awhile during a quick throttle down.

Do you know the part number by chance?
I need to get a good manual/parts diagram for this machine!

So it sounds like we have it narrowed down to a 3185, right?
