I've got a 7254 that gets pretty well used around my place, and twice I've broken the OE tie rod on the front end. Both times I was digging out a dirt berm with the FEL (tooth bar welded on for better digging) and while backing up a tire drops in to a low spot and the tractor pitches over to the left.
The first time the tie rod broken right away, right where the rod necks down to the threaded section just inboard of the tie rod end. After waiting for another stock piece to come in the piece broke in the exact same place, doing the exact same job.
Now I'm farming this out to a custom motorcycle builder that I know. The rod will be chromoly steel with heim joints on it. I'll drill out the taper on the knuckles to run some grade 8 bolts instead.
