I was at a wake tonight and two different times peoples cell phones rang. I was talking to the funeral home director later and he stated that this is becomming more and more of a problem. We got on the subject of jammers and didn't know where to get info on the legality of them.Or differences in jammers. It is a shame that people just don't have the common sense to turn them off or on vibrate. Does any one know where top get any info.

In general cell phone jammers are illegal in the US.

There are exceptions and exemptions to the law, and they are fairly widely used in classified areas.

While it is possible for private parties to get exemptions, it is not common.

Definetly have been times that I wished I had a jammer-funerals, movies, plays, musicals, resturants just to name a few.

Actually, at times I wished I had a jammer that would "blow up" the offending party's cell phone. Yes, I know-just a little vindictive! But can't a guy dream????

Hang tinfoil on the walls, ground it and wallpaprt over it. That will do bad things to cell reception in any room without a window.

I brought this up at a local school board meeting about a year ago,(I am on the board) we discussed this. Legally, can't do it. At least in a school. But, as this was discussed, I got a polite azz chewin' from some of the other board members that I even think of making it so they can't get a hold of their kids via cell phone. BTW, we do have a no cell phone use in school, but it's hard to enforce.

The last time I checked there is a $11,000 (first offense) fine for using a (cell signal) jamming device...it is illegal to interfere with a public (or government) communication network...

The law might soon be changed in Texas after a "LAWMAKER", a Texas Senator
got a call from a death row inmate threatening his family.

In Maryland they want to install Jammers in Prisons to stop inmates from running a business from prison.. In one case a Hit was called from a prisoner cell phone.. I'm not sure if they got the final OK from the FCC.. There were many concerns, one that it may interfere with cell phones outside the prison walls/fences...

I just leave my phone on vibrate and keep it in my shirt pocket...

Here in SC the prison systems are actively trying to get the FCC to let them use cell phone jammers, so far they haven't been successful.
I can guarantee in no case can a private citizen legally use one for any reason, it is federal law and a state cannot override that.
