I always make sure the friction washers are well greased .... just takes a bit of rust on them to make them grip better than they should. I've never had a problem with the blades slipping doing this, it just ensures that if something is struck it will slip like it's supposed to. Not something that effects your blade breakage issue ... but just good practice when installing the blades IMHO.
