massey ferguson 1235
Does anyone know if there are folks who would come to your home and do a 400hr service on a Massey Ferguson 1235? I want to have all the filters and everything checked and perhaps learn a little something. I have this beautiful tractor that has a kink in a hydraulkic line, and I know i need to have the filters clleaned or changed.

Have you talked with your local MF dealer? Aside from that, it isn't difficult to change oil, filters and even replace a hose on a tractor. At most a 2 hour job to change all the oil and filters, might take a bit longer to replace the kinked hose depending on location but nothing that anyone with a few tools cant do. I would assume that the filters have been changed at 50 hour like all other tractors require so they should be easier to remove than the first time when the factory 800# gorilla put them on. This is a common complaint on the first filter change that they are extremely hard to remove but after that, they should be quite easy. You just need the correct size filter wrenches (may need a couple different sizes), some basic wrenches and containers large enough to hold all the oil. Follow the OEM manual for correct oils and capacities or just tell the local dealer that you are doing a 400 Hr. service and they will give you everything that you need. Remember that almost all 4 WD units have a double drain for the engine, one on each side of the drive shaft. Your OEM owners manual should have all the photos and instructions needed for even the most inept mechanical person to manage this service.
Also if the weather is not the best, it isn't going to hurt to go over the hours a bit and wait till warmer weather is available if you don't have a shop to work in.

Thanks Gary... I am pretty handy with repair work but for some reason i can't seem to grasp all these filters and adjustments needed. I did have some work done from Big Boys Toys and I thought they were expensive for my repair, and the guy there was vague and dismissive and basically I think I got taken for a turkey. But that is history so i would rather not deal with them. I can't even seem to get an answer from them for how can i get some parts replaced and ordered through the web. it tells you to contact the dealer for the online orders... Anyway I am frustrated. the next closest guy is in belchertown which si a good ride for me so I wish I could get a pro to come by and I could observe and have it done right. just a checkup with a tune up so to speak. I am willing to pay but I do not feel like dropping $400 to have a guy transport it out to belchertown.

I am not sure what adjustments you need unless it is valve clearance which may be a little tricky and you would need a new valve cover gasket when finished. This is usually done with the engine running and the engine up to operating temps then just need a feeler gage, screwdriver (usually for the screw adjustment) and a wrench to tighten the jam nut. You do need to know the gap needed.
Everything else is pretty much, drain oil, unscrew old filter, put on new filter, PUT IN DRAIN PLUG, fill with specified oil, go to work. Your OEM likely say to replace the air cleaner filter also which is no issue either.
As for transport, most dealers will haul your tractor for about $1-2 per mile. Also you may be able to get this done at a local mechanic shop if you have one nearby. You would need to get the parts from a MF dealer. My experience is that most will drop ship you the parts to your home address if you wait till they order parts (usually once a week) so all you need is a credit card to buy them and they can ship directly to your house. Sometimes you may get them shipped for $10-20 which to me is cheaper than driving 60 miles to my dealer and back for my LS.

Do you have an owners manual? It should break down the required maintenance by hour intervals. If you're handy it should be no big deal.
Have you called a dealer to order parts or sent an online request? As far as I know agco parts doesn't have a way to lookup and order parts online. Probably worth the phone call to be sure to get the right filters.

As far as I know the dealer in belchertown isn't a massey dealer anymore. Probably why that's so expensive.
