I have a chance to buy 10 pounds of this rod. I am intermediate welder in terms of sill level. I see it sells for $800 I can get the ten pounds for $75. From what I have read the rod is very good at welding mixed metals. I also saw a reference to use it for broken stud removal. A couple of questions.

1) Is this a good rod?

2) How well will it age? I guess this rod has some age on it

3) Do you all think is this a good deal?

Thanks mush for any and all comments. Thanks John

Looks like a high strength stainless based rod, ie/ 312. If it was kept dry can last indefinitely. That's good price if you have a use for it and it's in good shape and wasn't soaked with water.

Grab it. I haven't tried it yet. Apparently, it's a stainless steel filler rod that can be used to weld cast iron, cast steel as well as low carbon steels (mild steel). I used a similar stainless steel filler rod (Super Missile rod) to weld a broken cast iron flange back onto the engine block of my 1948 Farmall Cub. I welded a mild steel stiffener to the flange for added strength using that SM rod--no trouble welding dissimilar steels.

I wish I could remember the type of Certaintum rod I used:confused:. I'd like to buy some now.
In the early 1980s I was working on a huge expansion to a local sawmill. The carpenter types wanted me to weld an extension on their ships augers. About 6-feet long. I went to the mill's weld shop to use their welding table. One of the mill weldors came over to me and said here try this rod. That stuff was amazingly strong:cool2:. The carpenters were using large air drills to drill through wood columns to bolt corbels on.

Good for dissimilar steels and tooling repairs. Welds easy. This stuff is 6 to 8 years old and still welds like new. (no rod oven here either)

Good product, Nearly identical to other brands like Welco Super Missile Weld. MG 600.. It's 312 SS with a name attached to it. The lowest cost New 312 all around rod that is nearly identical is Stoody Versalloy..Sells for about $10.00 # Super Missile is about $25 last I looked. All these 312's are very smooth and nice. Flux falls off on it's own. Use where you are welding unidentifiable metals... See if the guy will send a stick to try b4 you buy.
