Would any one be interested in a universal chain guard kit? What I envision is a bent plate with slots cut to stick the chain through. Then feed some aircraft cable through the end loop protruding through the plate to retain the chain. Top it off with some self drilling, self tapping screws and lock washers to attach it to your cutter and you're in business. I suppose we could make it wider in the center to space the chains away from the blades for folks whose cutters don't adhere to the FEMA spec and make it available without chain to save on shipping costs. And I guess we could powder coat it in your choice of colors.

OK, so now tell me, am I all wet or would this be of any help at all to help folks have a little safer tractoring experience?

JimMc,
Sounds like a great Idea. Where were you folks when I was buying all of my equipment?

Hi Jim,

Sounds like an excellent idea…/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

In fact, I’d take it a few steps farther… how about starting a “Second business” for universal replacement parts for the “rest of the manufacturers”…at realistic money making friendly prices…

Keep the First Choice implements strictly for your nationwide dealer network you’re currently building up, and sell exclusively the “replacement parts” arm through a partnership with TractorByNet. This would help your company in its buying power when it comes to PTO shafts, yokes, slip clutches, shear pins, auger tips, belts, gearboxes, seals, output shafts, hookup pins, tail wheels, chain guards, safety decals (another business in itself…), etc., etc…

Re: Chain Guard Kit & Implement Replacements Parts

Not a bad idea, go for the niche market and you make more in the long run than just going for the first sell of the three point implements.

A good parts network with a well set up website would really sell alot of parts over the net.

As for the chain kit, there is alot more of a market than you would at first believe. Mainly because of the cost that the major manufacturers charge for the kits.

I like it /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif. I bought a used 60" Hardy brush cutter - actually, it came with the used tractor - but I have been trying to figure out how to add a chain guard. I like the idea of being able to buy just the angle iron and add my own chain. Since I don't have a welder, I was looking at a lot of hole drilling. Maybe you will offer it before I break down and start drilling /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif.
