I'm going to weld chain hooks on my FEL, thought folks here might have seen some things that struck them as good ways of doing this. I saw a double chain hook that allowed hooking on a chain from either direction, but can't find them now- seemed like a good idea. I've also seen guys use D-rings. I plan to weld a piece of pipe or square stock behind top lip of bucket for strength, then weld hooks to stock. Any suggestions on what to do or not do are welcome.

I would just take normal chain hooks, and weld them right on to the bucket, that is how they do it on heavy equipment.

There must be a hundred threads and a thousand posts with chain hook advice.

Search "chain hook" or "grab hook".

Here is a pic of my bucket. I welded 3 chain hooks and a hitch reciever after I welded a piece of angle across the entire top to reinforce it. Some people will insist that the hooks have to be in line with the cylinders or else. My setup has come in handy with no problems for 3 years now.

you need to buy hooks made for this with a factory flat bottom. On my little tractor I have three eighths size welded on 4x4 flat stock . And yes they are mounted in line with my loader arms. We have done this for years on heavy equipment and never had a problem. On the heavy equipment we just size everything up accordingly. It will break a chain first. It will give your bucket a very clean look, not garbaged up. Good Luck.

I like the receiver. I bought one of those 3pt adapters that allows you to attach a hitch ball, but it's a pain to get setup and it's hard to control because it's so close to the rear axle.
tnx

some guys weld the hooks to plate and then bolt to bucket. for heavy lifting you can also add plate to underside of bucket.
