Hey all,

In another thread someone asked me to post my set up for dragging my pastures and gravel driveway. Here is my setup:

1. Boom Pole
2. 50’ of chain link fence folded over on itself.
3. Light chain to hold it together.
4. A piece of 6x6 for weight

I only use the 6x6 for dragging the pastures. When I am doing the gravel driveway, I remove the 6x6. I have set it up with a quick connect/disconnect system that lets me add or remove the 6x6 in about a minute.

The set-up has worked great. It breaks up the horse droppings but doesn’t overly damage the grass in the pastures. This is important in my case because I have 4 horses on 4 acres and they are not kind to the grass. I had considered a pull tine harrow, but this has worked for me for about ¼ of the price.

When I smooth my driveway, it only takes two or three passes to completely remove the washboards effect and the driveway looks new when its finished (about 10 minutes of seat time).

just smothes out the gravel?
do you have any before and after pic's of the road ?

I like your boompole idea. I have a simular setup, I use a 8'x8' section of chain link, a 8' piece of pipe on the front with chain attached to either end. I use 2 6"x6"x8's for weight. Main problem I have is turning it around in tight areas. With the boompole I could just lift it up and backup. I like your quick disconnects as well, I am using bungie cords to hold my 6x6's on.

bky,

I remove the extra weight and it just smooths the gravel out.

I smoothed the gravel last week. So I don't have any pics at the moment. I usually only have to smooth every two months or so.

I guess I could go mess up the driveway just so I could drag it. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Ed,

I was using pieces of rope to hold the 6x6 on. However, the wood just kept sliping off (no fun when it's covered with manure). So I set up the quick links and they hold the 6x6 in place very well. Just took three eye bolts and carabeners. Total cost was less than $8 from TSC.

Great idea! I think I'll put one of those on my "to-do" list for a summer project.

I was looking at a "ready made" device similar to yours with a 3 pt. lift attachment and they were pretty pricey!

Since I already have the boom pole, this should be a pretty cheap way out.

Ah, yet again another use for the tractor that I never thought of at the time I bought it. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Thanks for the great ideas!

Rick,

Glad I could help. It is probably the easiest attachment to hook up to the tractor. And the total cost was less than $120. Including boom pole, chain, linkers, etc.
