Chain saw bar oil accidentially used in transmission

The oil was added to the Kubota L4740.

Should not be a problem on the Kubota either. As mentioned above. Mix a little in a clear glass. If the chain lube settles to the bottom you can drain some from your transmission to remove it if concerned. Not really worth worrying about.

For my 2 cents, there is not a whole lot of difference between chain saw lube oil and hydraulic anyway.
I know of folks that filter used transmission oil to lube chain saw bars.
In fact I believe chain oil has an ingredient added to make cling better than other oils which could only help lube gears.

I think his concerns were with (1) whether the hydraulics would work okay (probably, not enough chain oil to change the ?compressibility? of the hydraulic fluid; and (2) whether it would cause seal degradation the way putting the wrong fluid in hydraulic brakes could cause them to soften, expand, and blow out.

Years back I did some work for a guy in trade for a 91 ford Taurus wagon that he claimed was on its last legs. Some one had put gear lube into the automatic transmission and as a result the transmission slipped whenever you stepped on the gas to normally accelerate. You REALLY had to go easy or it would slip. I pulled the pan off and washed it with kerosene. I changed the filter and added new fluid but also used a quart of Lucas. It never slipped again and I drove that car another 60000 miles and sold it with a quarter million miles on it for $250 to a lady that was thrilled to get it.
