Greetings!

I don't know if this would help anyone but I bought some 2 x 4 Fibreglass rectangular tubing to fabricate a saw mount for my tractor (it could be used on trailers, trucks, benches you name it). Unfortunately I was only able to buy it in 20' lengths so I have about 18' leftover. All I did with mine was drill 2- 3/4" holes on one side of four inch dimension and 2-1/4" holes in same location on the other side. Then I used a 1/4 bolt to mount the tractor and accessed the head through the 3/4" inch hole to tighten. The tubing is real solid fiberglass and is UV resistant. You could paint it or leave it raw. It makes a real clean mount that will hold your saw securely when mounted in the vertical position but does not dull the teeth. I would sell it in any length you want (I used 16" for mine) for $16 per foot plus shipping. I will even drill the holes if you want.

email rockman@tds.net if you are interested.

You paid $320 for a length of fiberglass 2x4??

And you bought all that material JUST to make one or two scabbards??

Are you testing the market with a product?

Actually I paid $10 a foot plus shipping to me. Total was just under $240. I don't think I will get rich cutting, drilling and shipping for a profit of $4 a foot.

As to buying 20' to use 16"' baileys wanted $200 just for one scabbard so I figured I could sell some off or use it for other purposes and come out ahead.

Clutch,

I wasnt trying to have a go at you, now that I re-read my post it sounded a bit sharp. No disrespect intended to you.

If you do a search for "chainsaw scabbard" on here, you will find pages of really cool ideas that the folks here have knocked up for small change. From plywood and PVC to kitchen chopping boards.... All really neat ideas.

I also would like to see your handy work. It's always good to see other designs.

For my own saw stowage, I was lucky that there is a 1/2 inch gap between my front counterweight and the front frame of the tractor which is a good fit for my saw and plastic scabbard (that was supplied with the saw). The blade brake and front of the engine casing sits firmly on the top of the counterweight.

I often wonder if there is any undue stress placed of the body of the saw by mounting it the way we do?? I dont believe the saw was designed to be stowed in such a way... I know I have a rough ride across the field to where I do my cutting, across very bumpy surfaces which I'm sure causes the body of the saw to sway back and forth putting strain on the blade and mounting posts. I haven't noticed any problems with my saw but I often wonder if anyone damaged their saw from mounting it this way?

I made one out of 2 pieces of plywood for my ATV. Bolt it to your mount, slip the bar between the 2 pieces of ply (about 8"x12"), snug it up on the bar and go. Keep it snug and it won't go anywhere.

Problem is I never used it and took it off. I figure if I loaded down my tractor or ATV with all the "stuff" I might need they would look like the Beverly Hillbilies truck. So if I have a limb that's in the way of my tractoring, I'll go around and come back on the ATV later and cut it. And on the ATV I'll toss it in the back of the atv trailer or on the ATV rack.

I guess I also didn't like the idea of the saw getting beat to death riding on my tractor or ATV all day. :(
