Poulan 380 being used to cut 20 inch ash tree. The bar it came with was 24 inch and carried a 84 link full chisel chain. The saw ran fine for two hours. Then it threw the chain even though it had been adjusted twice after break in. The links were damaged to the point that the chain could not be pulled through the bar by hand. I was 104 miles from the house so purchased a new chain [3/8 .50] from oregon. New chain lasted 5 minutes and it was off. Was told to replace the roller rim sprocket and I have done so. The bar appears straight. Is there anything to check for before starting again? The saw is used with unknown hours.

Did you inspect the bar to make sure it is not excessively worn? You can dress the bar if worn if you are skilled with a flat file.
There is also a method where you make sure the bar tip is pressed upwards before tightening.

Used a flat file along the flat edges of the saw. Tip alittle worn but my saw guy did not try to sell me a new one so the bar must be usable in his opinion. Was going to eliminate the bar question by buying a bar chain combo off of Amazon. Real estate taxes do the 20th of this month so buying may be done for now. Thank you for your input. Never bunged up the drive links before but managed to do it with these two chains. Tension started off right. Oiler working.

Sprocket, bar, oiling, and proper tensioning (when cold) are all that's left.

I'm thinking the drive sprocket also. Its about all that remains.
A thought - check the entry slot in the bar - where the chain enters onto the bar immediately after going around the drive sprocket. If its not in good shape the chain will simply "drive itself" off the bar.
