I've tried searching all the post, but haven't found if these ladder chains will fit my TC40DA. I have a very steep gravel drive and my old Ford 4000 needed chains with big ag tires. We get enough ice mixed with snow that I really think I am going to need chains even with 4WD.

Thanks

Barry: The chains that were recommended to me are: Aquiline Part # 1012354. I will get these if my Canadian source can supply them. South of the border you should have no problem buying them from your NH dealer. Expensive but they are supposed to be good and they fit the R4's

Talk to your dealer or email Wallingsford.

The web site is: Cut Chains

They look kind of light but people using them say they are good.

Great looking chains. They sent me here for price information. I am just having a hard time justifying the cost on these. Especially since I probably will need them just a couple of times each winter. Of course when I need chains I want them to work.

Thanks for the info.

We had 6" of snow this weekend and it is clear I need chains /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif. Sorry to respond to my own post, but I'm still looking for a 40/45 owner using a cheaper set of chains. Anyone? Thanks

I've seen better prices - both used and new. If you haven't gotten your chains yet these guys will ship chains that will fit. I called and asked for a quote on their cheapest: just under $300 a set for the rears, and they're in stock.

I don't know if this will help but here's a picture of chains on my TC35A.I bought them for $225.00 last year at Tractor Tire Chains .Com . They work great but beware when you try putting them on,they weigh about 75 pounds apiece, and when your not riding on snow they will bounce you to pieces. This year I tried something different,I put a set of ladder chains on the front tires only and plowed,It worked out very well and the chains were a snap to get on and off by using the loader to lift the front tires off the ground. I have a 9 foot myers plow on my tractor and I plowed 11 inches of snow going uphill with this setup. It also helps when turning with a blade full of snow.

Mine are similar, very good traction, but a bear to put on. This is the first year I haven't had a straight gear tractor. I'm not sure how the hydros work but mine is a hydraulic shuttle. The rears won't turn even with both jacked up, so you can't roll the chains on by turning the tires. Used to take 1/2 hour with my old Massey, this time 1 hour and lots of sweat. First time with this set, but still lots of grunting. Worth it, I guess.

Bernie: Thanks for posting the photo. I can get similar chains but my NH dealer suggested that I need to get 3 inches of clearance between the inner sidewall of the tire and the fender. Is he right or not? I would imagine that you have found that you have enough clearance with the stock setup. For snowblowing, when you have ice under the snow, are the front ladder chains enough?

Thanks

Bernie,
Thanks for the picture. I just ordered a pair and will give them a try. I may end up getting a set for the front too. Driving back to the barn in 4WD I was on a 10% slope (according to my Tilt-O-Meter) and without the bucket loaded and off the ground, the frontend slid down hill. I ended up backing out to the drive and taking a more level route.
I honestly wonder if part of the problem is my driving. It took me a little while to get use to the hydro. I may be over driving the R4s.
