Chains Chains - Front/Rear or both?

I was thinking of rear chains originally, but the more I read input from guys here , I decided to go with fronts on 4wd. I bought mine last winter and used them quite a lot. I have plenty of clearance on my tires, and they work well for my steep , gravel drive. They are smaller and easier to handle on/off and will keep your steering on course.

You will get better traction with the tire chains on the front, same reason a front wheel drive auto gives you better traction than a rear wheel drive.

To Tom in Michigan I would be interested in your experience with the L185DT. I inherited my fathers 4 years ago, which he bought new 26? or so years ago. It is great, and I have made attachments etc. Currently, I thought a serious transmission problem, but the gearshift had popped out of the slider ( fork) and I put it back in, 5 minutes). It may be worn, but will see what happens in usage, and if happening again, will deal with the problem.

Front chains are a mistake. They blow front drivelines, it's just a matter of when. Sure you get away with them for a while and then "Bam". A multi thousand dollar repair.

My recommendation to see if you need them. I don't and I have moved about 200" of snow thus far this year.
