Tractor
John Deere 4310
Hello, everyone.

You all have been such a great help to a newbie tractor owner. This site is the best.

Ok, now I have the front plow mounted. The back tires have been loaded. Now all I need is the back chains that everyone has said I MUST have. Can people give me some recommendations for back tire chains for a JD 4310? Trying not to spend more then $300 all day. I live in NH and have a steep driveway.
Thanks again

If you're anywhere near Milford stop into B & B chain they're a part of Chapell tractor. Good people, pricing is decent and you'll get good info as well as being able to handle the merchandise which always helps me. I'm in So. Me and use double ring chains as they are self cleaning and I use them through spring mud season.

here's a pic of the bottom half of my driveway, I can't find the photo going up from here.

Here's what I decided on the tractor, I bought a canopy to keep dry and found it the ideal place for mounting lights. The angle is much better while using the FEL than ROP mounted lights. I have two trapezoidal beam lights on the front and two floods on the back. after several years of use I still wouldn't change a thing. I hope this helps.

When you order chains make sure that you order the correct one. There is difference between chains for R1 and R4 tires of the same dimension.

For my 4300 with type R4s I got a set of rear chains from tirechains.com. Was happy with the quality of the chain and their service. Obviously you will need to know the type of tire you have and the dimensions so that the chains fit properly. Also it may be necessary to install spacers so that there is enough room for the chains. In my case I had the rear tires swapped and that provided an extra inch or so which was enough for the chains. Don't know if the same can be done or needs to be done on a 4310?

If you have a steep driveway, and get a lot of ice, then chains become a necessity for snow removal, towing, and material hauling. Even AG tires don't get enough bite into ice that you get with chains.

And the same holds true if you're using the tractor as a log hauler pulling over rock and brush; especially if you're using brush as support over swampy areas.

Never heard of studded tractor tires. I guess that any instance that you needed them would end up pulling most of them out of the tires in a short period of time.

Was that $200 a piece or for both?? I paid $100 for a pair of 26x12x12 tire chains from them. Surely the larger chains are much higher. Thanks.

I also have used Tirechains.com and I would highly reccomend them as a source of information and chains. They have been very helpful to me, a tractor novice. I have purchased front and rear v-bar chains (dirt/gravel driveway and private road) from them and are happy with the quality. A neighbor of mine also purchased from them luckily he also purchased the tools required to cut and size the chains for a perfect fit. We had a record setting Snowvember here in the Northwest and I am happy I had the chains.
