I HAVE A 4300 WITH TURF TIRES ON ORDER....WENT TO THE DEERE DEALER AFTER HOURS TO SHOW MY DAD THE NEW RIG....I ASKED THE DEALER TO INCLUDE A SET OF CHAINS IN THE DEAL (I NOW HAVE A B7100 AND HAVE USED CHAINS ON IT IN THE WINTER...I LIVE IN NH)...ANYWAY , IT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE THERE IS ENOUGH ROOM BETWEEN THE FENDER AND CHASSIS TO RUN A SET OF CHAINS WITH THE R3 TURFS.....HAS ANYBODY DONE THIS ...DO I NEED TO PUT SMALLER TIRES ON TO DO THIS...DO I NEED CHAINS...???

I had the same problem with my 4300. In SE Minnesota we get as much freezing rain as we do snow in the winter. Chains are a must. I had to put the wheels in the wide position for the chains to clear. I didn't have to do that with my 4600. Now that I have traded for a 4400 (same dimensionaly as the 4300) I will have the same problem. I am thinking of having a machine shop make me a spacer that fits between the wheel and the hub. I figure it would only need to be about and inch or two wide. But your right. The chains won't fit with the wheels in the narrow position.

What is the overall width with the wheels in the wide position...I have a 60 in rear mount finish mower and would want the footprint to fall inside of this. I also have a woods sb52 rearmount snowblower which would be ok with the wheels as is but any wider and i think it would be a problem..
I wrestled with the decision between the 4300 and the Kubota 3010...the Kubota had more ground clearance and would be no problem to get chains on...
I need some advice...I have verbally agreed to buy the 4300 and it is on order from the factory for some time in July..Had I known that chains would not go on it, I would have probably went with the Kubota as they are both great machines.....
Is it too late to jump ship? Am I overreacting? Any other solutions?

Remi,
I had the same problem with my 4600. In order to get the chains to not hit I have to be over 6 foot on the width on the rear wheels. I'm not sure about the 4300 as I don't have that book. If John Miller reads this he will have the page specs. Or call your dealer and ask him what the width will be in the wider position. On my tractor you can go 8 different widths, but like I said you will have to look at the specs.

I have R-4s on my 4300, which according to the spec sheet are a bit wider than the turfs. I turned the wheels out to the wider position on mine, which gains about 3/4" on each side. In that position I have 2" from the sidewall of the tire to the nearest spot on the fender. I also flipped the brake rod around on the left side to gain some more clearance from the tire. Should be just enough room for chains. I run a 60" MMM which still sticks out about 3-4" on the trim (left) side. The deflector sticks out about 6-8" on the right side. Hope this helps.

All generalizations are false.

Sorry guys...

I only have access to parts manuals/breakdown diagrams...

{I looked at the 4300 rear tires/axle assembly, just shows a parts breakdown...no measurements}

I was able to get a copy of the Governmental Bid Specification Booklet from my local dealer. It shows the max width (outside measurement) at the rear tires for the 4200/4300/4400 at 68.2 in. max.
It shows min. width (inside measurement) at 26.6 in. for the 4200 and 23.4 in for the 4300/4400 but I think the measurement is flipped because they show the 4200 having a higher max hood hight, ROPS hight and more ground clearence then the 4300/4400.
