I need to pick out a gift for myself, something in the $20 range. What I've kind of wanted one but never gotten around to buying is one of the multi tools for adjusting the chain. I have several screnches but never really liked them, kind of bulky. But the folding tools seam like they would fit in a pocket or on a belt easily. But I can decide between the Oregon Top Saw version that has a welded socket on the side for the bar nut and the Timber Tuff that has the socket flip out. The Timber Tuff looks like it could be more compact. But I haven't seen one in person so I don't know how easy it is to flip the 13mm socket out and does it lock securely enough to loosen bar nuts. They are both about the same price. Does anyone use either one, if so what you think?

I'd lose either one but I find this solution to be ideal. Works for me anyway.

It would not help me because I need to carry a file too and so I use a small tool box with everything I need in it. Screw driver, wrench, Homemade bar grove cleaner, file, chain saw tool for the plugs and a rag. Ed

Hey, a gift is a gift (even if it is for yourself).

Of the two that you're considering I'd go for the Oregon. The Timber Tuff looks uncomfortable in that, when the 'handles' are extended, all of the hinged implements would have a tendency (especially, over time/usage) to fall-down/open-up. That would become an embuggerance.

I rarely need to sharpen the chain when I'm out cutting so I never bring a file. There are times when I don't even bother bringing fuel or oil. But every so often I do need to adjust the chain or even remove the bar (if it get's pinched) so I always carry tools needed to do so. Sometimes it's a scrench other times it's just a screwdriver and a wrench. If not for needing an idea for a gift in the price range I doubt I would get one of these but I like the idea of getting something I wouldn't mind trying yet never felt it was needed enough to spend money on it. I was just hoping someone had one to give me their opinions on it.

I've got a couple of the Oregon style that I've had for at least a couple years now, I like them pretty good and nothing has broken on them...
