Update:

I finally took the time this weekend to go through this saw. I cleaned the carb. It had a pretty gummed up needle valve. I also replaced the fuel line while I had it apart and replaced the gasket between the carb and the cylinder with red RTV. It runs great now: Starts on the first few pulls and keeps running even after it gets hot.

I think the culprit was the gummed up needle valve, but it's hard to say since I did the three things together. I inspected the old fuel line and didn't see any holes. The carb gasket wasn't even too bad. It had a few small rust stains on it, and I figured that while I had the saw that far apart, I might as well do whatever I can.

Edit: I forgot to mention that the total bill was just over a dollar for the fuel line. Everything else was done with stuff I had on the shelf.

Good to hear! That gummed up valve could allow gas to continue to flow into the carb and flood it so that is most likely your culprit, nice cheap fix.
