Holy crap! Very cool but I don't understand what they are trying to accomplish? Thanks for sharing and please elaborate.
That's really doing it the hard way. When the rails and ties were replaced by my cabin (switches included), they had a machine that would literally lift the track while at the same time pushing down on the tie, popping the spikes out, and then just spit the old tie out the side. There was another machine that installed the new ties and compacted the ballast. Got pics of it somewhere.
